He looked directly at the children and said, "You are NOT the future!"

Dear Family and Friends;

The subject line above may seem strange to you, and it will only sound more absurd when I tell you who said it, and to whom. But first, a few words to explain why I am sending you this email.

I'll apologize first if this email reaches you inadvertently, or more than once. I have your name and address either from a previous email campaign (2014 or 2011) that you so generously contributed to, or I was given your name by a mutual friend, who thought you would be willing to open your heart to help us this year.

I am sending this email, as I do only once every three years (yes, the last time was in 2014!), on behalf of the Pirchei Youth Group of Detroit. Once again, we are proud to be hosting the annual Midwest convention, the Pirchei Midwest Siyum HaMishnayos, on February 23-26, 2017. Over three hundred boys from across the country will be coming to Detroit to experience a weekend like no other.

They will reunite with friends and mentors, or be meeting new ones, as they join together, along with our own boys, for four days they will surely remember for a lifetime. This is no camp reunion! This is a weekend filled with inspiration, that stays with them. Together, over 450 people will be eating, singing, davening, studying, and dancing.... with even more guests and local dignitaries attending on Saturday night at the Grand Banquet. There is no other weekend to compare.

Not that this could ever suffice, but please visit our website at www.PircheiDetroit.org and see the pictures, watch the videos, and read the news articles, to perhaps get a glimpse of what this weekend means.

A Detroit Siyum HaMishnayos is different. To quote an adult chaperone from New York, "You know what the difference is between you guys and the other cities? They just make a siyum... YOU LIVE IT." Truer words have not been spoken. We have a dedicated group of volunteers, the SAME PEOPLE year after year, who willingly and with joy, keep coming together to do this for one reason and one reason ONLY: to make sure THIS weekend is the best, most inspiring, most important weekend, it can possibly be for all who attend.

Based on the feedback that we've received from the participants, their parents, their teachers and principals, and the fact that every year they always look forward to coming to Detroit, from all across the country, I can tell you that we succeed, year after year, with YOUR help.

Once again, to help offset the costs of putting together this weekend, we are holding a benefit raffle. Tickets are only $5 each, or a book of ten tickets for $36.

Here are small pictures of the prizes: (larger photos of the prizes, along with detailed descriptions, and links to securely purchase tickets online, can be found on our website)

While most of the boys do pay a nominal fee to attend this weekend, it in no way truly covers the costs associated with it. And some of the boys are coming from the far reaches of the country, incurring travel expenses that the nearer cities do not have.

This weekend is too important for a boy to miss simply because he can't afford it. NO MATTER WHAT, WE WILL NOT TURN ANYONE AWAY FOR LACK OF FUNDS. So, we turn to you, our friends, to help us help them.

So who would tell them, "You are not the future!"?

It was none other than the esteemed head of the Yeshiva Gedolah Ateres Mordechai, the Rosh HaYeshiva, Rabbi Yehudah Bakst shlit"a. In 2014 he said those words to the hundreds of boys gathered, and then explained himself. "You are not the future!.... YOU ARE THE PRESENT! You are the NOW!" He assured them that by being there that weekend, and learning and studying the Torah as one group, THEY were doing the most important thing – sustaining us, and making sure that we have a future. And with every passing day, that becomes more and more important.

We cannot let them down. Will you?

Please visit our website at www.pircheidetroit.org. If you're unfamiliar with who we are and what we do, visit our "About Us" page. See the pictures, videos, and news articles. See the archive pages and read the raffle letters we sent out in 2014 and 2011. We have a passion to do whatever we can to make this weekend the most amazing ever.

Then visit this year's Raffle page and see larger photos of the beautiful prizes that we are offering for 2017. They will certainly enhance your home, or make a beautiful gift for someone. You can purchase tickets with your credit card, securely, directly from our site. There are also opportunities still available to sponsor various items of the convention weekend in memory or honor of a loved one, and to even support Pirchei year-round, via a small donation every month on your credit card. The cost of a cup of coffee, to sustain our future!

But the real gift, is your willingness to help us help the boys. They are the real 'PRESENT'. Can there be anything more fulfilling?

Sincerely,

Kerry M. Silver
